TYPES OF IMMUNOGLOBULINS

• IgA Found in mucosal areas, such as the gut, respiratory tract and urogenital tract. Also found in saliva, tears, and breast milk.It prevents colonization of pathogens.
• IgD Found on B-cell surface, blood, and lymph. It activates basophils and mast cells to produce antimicrobial factors.Functions mainly as an antigen receptor on B cells that have not been exposed to antigens
• IgE Bound to mast cells and basophils throughout body. Known Functions: Allergic reactions: Binds to allergens and triggers histamine release from mast cells and basophils. Also lysis of worms.
• IgG In its four forms, provides the majority of antibody-based immunity against invading pathogens. The only antibody capable of crossing the placenta to give passive immunity to fetus.
• IgM Eliminates pathogens in the early stages of B cell mediated (humoral) immunity before there is sufficient IgG

IMMUNE FACTORS IN COLOSTRUM

• Lysozyme:- This is an acid resistant hydrolyzing agent, that is capable of destroying bacteria and viruses on contact.
• Lactoperoxidase:- They oxidize bacteria by generating the release of hydrogen peroxide.
• Lactoferrin:- This is an iron binding glycoprotein which facilitates iron absorption and also acts as antimicrobial agent. It also provides attachment inhibition on the cell surface receptors.
• Proline Rich Polypeptide (PRP):- Stimulate the thymus to regulate the immune system in the body. PRP stimulates the weakened immune system and also stabilizes hyperactive immune system due to autoimmune diseases and allergies in the body.
